Relationships are important because we’re always living in one with someone or something and, when we consider how broad the concept of ‘relationships’ is, we see that we’re:
➣ either getting into or out of one,
➣ wanting to know what to do if things go wrong,
➣ wondering how to put up with people we can’t stand, and
➣ learning how to get on with people in general.
Relationships provide us with a path of healing, love, fulfilment and nurturing. So where do we start? There is only one starting point and that is with the most important relationship we’ll ever have in our lives — the relationship we have with ourselves. What we think about ourselves has a bearing on our relationships with everyone and everything else. For this reason it’s important that we understand that we, and we alone, are responsible for our own emotional and mental states and that no one else can offend, irritate or anger us unless we choose to participate in their dramas. It’s the crucial relationship that shapes our values, beliefs and everything that happens to us so obviously we need to get it right because if we don’t, then through the Law of Life, we’ll be experiencing problems in the outer world.
